2017 FINGER LAKES 'ORCHARDS OF SENECA' CHARDONNAY
Chardonnay from the east side of Seneca Lake, partially barrel fermented and aged on lees. White nectarine and floral aromas from the unoaked portion are supported by high acidity, balanced oak and creamy texture.
Chardonnay is well-suited to the Finger Lakes, often highlighting the lean acidity and minerality typical of the region, and also lending itself to subtle oak treatment. 2017 was a cooler vintage in the Finger Lakes compared with 2016, and as such is a more typical example of this style. The two vineyards where these grapes were sourced are situated between Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake, in the zone referred to as the ‘Banana Belt’ as it is one of the warmest areas in the Finger Lakes region.
